Jung ah Kim is a South Korean artist whose work reflects on the quiet resilience found in peripheral spaces and fleeting presences. Often set within the stillness of night, her paintings dwell on small sources of light—streetlamps, stop signs, reflections on water, or a roadside daffodil catching the glow. These modest illuminations, gently holding their ground, offer moments of calm and orientation in unfamiliar or shifting environments.

Having moved between cities, Jung ah approaches space not as fixed territory but as something felt and carried. Her work draws from the experience of living on the edges and honours the people who move through the night with these lights, often unseen but essential to the rhythm of the city. Their silhouettes emerge faintly within the layered compositions, visible only after the eye has learned to linger. Their presence becomes part of the atmosphere itself, quiet but integral.

Jung ah’s practice resists urgency, offering instead a space for stillness and reflection. In this quiet visual language, perception becomes a form of care, holding what is often unseen, and allowing presence to unfold gently over time.
